Some Things

Just a couple of things that I want to share....

- First, is it normal for an adult woman to scream at animals from the relative safety of her vehicle?  This happened to me the other night while driving home from work.  An innocent raccoon was hanging out on the side of the road just waddling around and I didn't see him until I was right next to him, loud singing may have been involved in the distraction.  He scared me and I yelled at the top of my lungs, alone, in my car "SWEET JESUS RACKENHOON" and kept driving.  I call them rackenhoons thanks to a little girl I used to nanny for that couldn't pronounce the word raccoon to save her life.  She also had problems with yesterday, yessertoday.

-To my lovely neighbors downstairs.  Congratulations on the lady love fest last night, way to go, really, but for the love of all that is good and holy, please, I beg of you, close your damn windows!!  I don't think the whole neighborhood needed the play by play.  I honestly thought there was a hurt cat outside at first.

-Finally I want to brag on myself for a quick minute.  The toilet in our apartment was running something fierce, the sound of running water almost constant.  So annoying but also apparently jacking up the water bill, who knew?  So I decided to take matters into my own hands and repair it. After hours (like 10 minutes tops) of scouring the Internet for answers, I trucked off to Wally World to get some supplies.  With what I hoped were the correct parts I proceeded to replace the faulty part in the toilet and stop the annoying leaky thing!  I did it!  I have mad plumbing skillz, yo.  I feel a new career coming on, but without all the crack of course.  It does however flush twice when you push the handle, but whatever, no more running water!

BEEF (ode to a best friend)

I figure it's about time to talk about a big part of my life, Gary or as I call him, Garrison.  Gary isn't my husband, he isn't even a relative of mine, but you might as well say we are family.  He's my best friend, my beef.  I know most people have close friends but they don't have a Beef!  There's no weirdness with my best friend being a guy, as people may expect,  he's my Gary and I wouldn't function right if he wasn't my best friend.  Some might even say that we share a brain, and, honestly, that might not be far from the truth!
Gary is the type of friend that won't judge me or be hard on me when I do something stupid, which happens a lot.  He can make me laugh full belly laughs by being utterly ridiculous with me.  Usually it's with something to do with Ewoks, unicorns or something totally inappropriate.  In fact, ridiculousness is the way we roll.
Last fall Gary and I took a road trip to Philadelphia for our friend LB's wedding.  We were there for 4 days and you know how spending time with someone can usually drive you insane.  Wait, is that just me?  Anyway, that never happens with Gary, we spent the time drunk, shopping and laughing.  There was no drunk shopping though, that would be a terrible idea and end up with one of us buying a falcon or bedazzled car. Ok, ok the car would totally be something I would buy.  I'm always threatening to bedazzle random things and Gary has stopped me.
When my mom had to have surgery for cancer, Gary offered to come to the hospital and sit with me even though the surgery was at the ass crack of dawn and made sure I let him know how she was doing as soon as I found out.
Gary is the kind of friend that I can call any time day or night and say that I need him to drive to my house and take me to Guatemala and his only question would be who is picking up the coffee and what are we going to pig out on.   It's truly great to have a friend that will always be there for you and would give you a kidney if you needed it.  I try and be just as good of a friend to him and hopefully I don't do to bad of a job!

We all need a Gary in our lives and I'm lucky that he's mine!

Football Time!!

I can't believe I haven't mentioned how excited I am that football is in full swing!  I am a football junkie, I live for it!  The team I bleed blue and red for is the New York Football Giants.  Granted, I live in New York, but this is not the reason for my undying love and devotion to the team.
Before I had geographical awareness, as a little wee one, I would spend most weekends with my grandparents.  The weekends were the best; cousins, aunts and uncles would all come over and we'd watch sports, eat an amazing grandma cooked meal and run around like little Tasmanian devils.  My love of football, baseball, basketball and even boxing was born of these weekends.  I of course had to root for the same teams as the family, otherwise I might have been disowned.  The one exception to this is baseball.  Let's just say, the Yankees are not my team of choice.
Thus my love of the NY Giants was born and for some reason football is the sport I love the most.  I think it has something to do with the fact that they only have 16 games in which to prove their mettle.  Unlike the 873 games it seems that baseball and basketball have per season.  Also I love the physicality of the game, these guys really give blood, sweat and tears on the field.
I proudly manage not one but two fantasy football teams and do pretty well if I do say so myself.  I study stats and players and matchups with a fierce determination as if I were the coach leading the team onto the field.  My Sundays are spent watching as much football as possible with more then a little yelling at the TV as if I could will my team to just get that extra yard or even inch to move the chains.
Obsessive? A tad, but it's what I love and I'll never give it up.  I'm just like my grandma yelling at players to do better and getting so mad when they don't listen and I can't imagine not doing it.  Frankly, being just like my grandma doesn't sound like a bad thing to me.  She was a pretty amazing lady.
Go Big Blue!

My guilty (TV) pleasures

So the summer is coming to a close and that means TV season is about to kick into gear.  I don't generally watch a lot of TV but most of what I do watch is pretty embarrassing for me to admit to watching.  I think I'll list my top three guilty TV pleasures.

Let's kick it off with by far the most embarrassing show that I watch, alone... in the dark... just me and my shame. (A little over reaction)
Oh I can't believe that I'm admitting to this one. Ok I'm might have a small obsession with The Real Housewives of New Jersey.  I know,  trust me, I know!!  I swear it's the only "Housewives" show that I watch.  I don't know what it is about that show but yeah, I've watched every single episode and I can't stop.  It's like watching a crazy on-going chain reaction car crash.  So trashy, sooo addictive.

Pretty Little Liars- This is a really good show.  Murder! Mystery! Shady teenagers!  It's that last one that is a little embarrassing.  I'm sure it's geared towards a *ahem* younger audience, it's on ABC Family for God's sake!!  However, it really is a good show that has sucked me in and I must know who A is.

Glee-  I've heard all the criticisms about this show.  It's past it's prime, the first season was the best, yadda yadda yadda.  I love it though and I sing along like it's my job to accompany them.  I may have even gone to the concert last summer and driven the five hours to New Jersey to do it.  (Interesting side note, they were filming the movie and my best friend, Gary, and I managed to accidentally end up getting in to the stadium while they were filming some extra stuff and ended up being allowed to stay and watch it and you can see us in the movie!)

So that wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be.  Does anyone have any shameful or not so shameful guilty TV pleasures that they are willing to cop to??  Don't be shy!
